We sat down with Sabriuna Wilkinson, single mother to baby Solo (8 months), entrepreneur and owner of Nurture Laiche. Read on to hear more about how she started her own business during COVID-19, is helping to feed lactating mothers through healthy baked goods and working to normalise breastfeeding on the island.
What is Nurture Laiche?
Nurture Laiche is a lactation business that provides healthy and delectable snacks for breastfeeding mothers using natural products, designed to enhance the breastmilk.
What inspired you?
I started this business in January 2020 by myself and it has been an amazing journey! I was inspired to do this lactation business as I became a breastfeeding mother. Never lost my milk supply, but I would find on those stressful/busy days I wouldn’t produce as much that’s when I turned to lactation goods. I found it difficult to find healthy lactation snacks and to bring them in Bermuda was expensive. I decided to do some research and create my own recipes.

You have a very interesting birth story. Care to share?
The year before (2019) was an interesting year for me as I had no clue I was pregnant until October 2019, when I went to the doctor and discovered that I was 32 weeks pregnant. Yup! I had no belly at the time, no morning sickness, swelling or missed menstrual cycles.
It was pretty shocking for me as I only had eight weeks to prepare. (More like seven weeks as I was scheduled for a C-Section due to my Prolactin level being too high and my doctor did not want to take any chances.) My handsome son arrived on 17th December 2019, weighing 6lbs 7oz, that’s the day my life changed forever and I became a breastfeeding mother.
What good eats can we expect from Nurture Laiche?
Currently, our products consist of lactation cookies, muffins and granola bites. Additionally, we sell our cookie dough. Coming up, we are looking to expand our goods to brownies and granola bars. Our recipes are made up of key ingredients: Oats, Wheat Germ and Flaxseed.
What are your hopes for a lactation business in Bermuda?
My goal for Nurture Laiche is to supply lactation goods to mother’s locally and eventually overseas. Being a new mom and starting a business was not easy as I never thought I would be an entrepreneur, but I took a leap of faith and everything fell into place naturally.
